I grew up in the North East of England near the North Sea coast and then relocated to Devon, where I lived for many years. I also lived and worked in Somerset. Nature, the countryside and the sea have always had a huge influence and been a large part of my life.
After working as an Art Teacher in secondary education for many years, I made the move to develop my own art practice in 2022. Working from my garden Studio, my painting practice is always moving forward and developing.
Now back in the North East, I am lucky enough to again live very close to the sea. This is a constant source of profound and emotional inspiration. Also, as an avid gardener, I observe nature close up on a daily basis. Nature will always feature in my work, inspire and be my constant. My paintings can be either full of energy and drama with visible brushstrokes, or portray a calm and more ethereal atmosphere, depending on the mood, weather and the seasons.
